crowd: implies a massing together and often a loss of individuality: a small ~ greeted the returning athletes.


throng: strongly suggests movement and shoving or pushing: a ~ of reporters followed the President.     (shove猛推to push quickly and violently，如he shoved her out of the way他一把将她推开)


crush: emphasizes the compact concentration of the group, the difficulty of individual movement, and the attendant discomfort: a ~ of fans waited outside the theatre.   注意不要写成attendent  （compact紧质紧凑压缩implies firm, neat union or consolidation of parts in a small compass在小范围内紧密有序的结合，如a compact, muscular body紧质有肌肉的身体，又如CD全称是compact disc压缩盘）
